This summer has been crazy so the weekend before last we packed up the car last minute and planned a little day trip. We went to Fenwick Island beach and then into Ocean City, ate at the dough roller and played putt putt golf. Then we went in search of a park or something interesting. We stopped by Assateague and actually got to see some ponies and then made our way to Assawoman which turned out to be really neat. It was a long day but we had a lot of fun! I didn't bother with my camera as much as I usually do... for one I didn't want to get any sand on it and I was having a lot of fun with everyone instead of documenting everything. I did stop to get some pictures when we stopped for breakfast that morning ( a little park was right next to the subway/ dunkin donoughts) and when we came across this tower at the entrance of the park. Andy actually took the panorama of the park and it turned out really neat.

This summer has just flown by! I can't believe it's already the middle of August! Well, last week I got to put my new mixer to good use making a birthday cake for an 11 year old girl. They were having a tie dye party so naturally the cake should be tie dye as well... right, that was a little scary but fortunately the all mighty internet pulled through again. There were a lot of sites that had instructions on how to make a tie dye or in some cases called a rainbow cake. What I wasn't even thinking about at the time was doing the inside of the cake tie dye... I was trying to figure out what I would do to the outside. Well the cakes I came across on the web were all talking about the inside of the cake so I thought I would give it a try. Here are the basic instructions, and then I'll show the photos!

I used 2 boxes of white cake mix for a two tiered cake.
6 different food colorings
buttercream frosting
and
royal icing for decorating

- Mix up your cake batter as usual and divide evenly into six bowls

- color each bowl with a different color... I used yellow, orange, red, green, blue, and purple (I would suggest using a lot of color or the cake looks a little more neon than traditional tie dye colors... that's what happened with mine.)

- Then pour each bowl into cake pans right on top of each other. DO NOT MIX.

- Bake normally and assemble.

to decorate the outside I used a buttercream frosting and I also used spray food coloring that I found at Michaels. It worked out really well I think. Then I used royal icing to add some details like daisies and dots.

Enjoy!

Man that looks like a lot of candles!

I had a great birthday this year. We spent the day with my family, playing games and hanging out in the pool! We also had a great steak and ped-a-heh dinner and of course, CAKE! I had a great time!

There's a new addition to my red kitchen! For my birthday this year my family went in together and got me a Kitchen Aid stand mixer! This will make it much easier to make cakes at home as I don't have to use Mom's to make the frosting which ends up being my most time consuming part of the whole process! I am so excited to use it! Thanks guys!!!!

Also here's a couple of pictures from my birthday... I got to make a cake and so did Mom and Whit... which will show why I am expected to make the cakes ;) Again thanks for a great day!
